Hiroshima University will host the World Forum for Women in Science – Japan (WFWS) / the 12th Women in Science without Borders (WISWB) Conference from July 18 (Sat.) to July 20 (Mon., national holiday), 2026, at the Kojinkai Hall on the Kasumi Campus of Hiroshima University.
Under the theme “Science and Technology for Peace,” the conference will bring together researchers, representatives of international organizations, policymakers, and experts in education, healthcare, and innovation from Japan and around the world. Participants will discuss how science and technology can contribute to peace, international cooperation, gender equality, and the creation of a sustainable society.
The opening session on July 18 will feature distinguished speakers including Professor Amal Amin of the National Research Centre of Egypt, a leader in international networks of women scientists; Ms. Angela Liberatore, who has extensive experience in European research policy and science diplomacy; and Professor Yoko Shimpuku of Hiroshima University. In addition, a plenary session on researchers’ career development and care will be held on July 19, while workshops on communicating scientific knowledge to policymakers and society will take place on July 20.
As a university located in Hiroshima, a city with a unique history as an atomic-bombed city, Hiroshima University is committed to fostering discussions on how science and technology can contribute to peace and international cooperation. Through this conference, the University will engage with researchers and stakeholders from around the world and share the outcomes of these discussions from Hiroshima to the global community.
